Women with severe mental disabilities wait for visits from relatives in the adult wing. Established in 1983, the Al-Shefa'a Building for Rehabilitation and Care provides housing and health care needs for Hebron's disabled community. About 120 residents with disabilities that include schizophrenia, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, and down syndrome live here at this Al-Ihsan Charitable Society-funded project on a permanent basis. The ongoing conflict, and the restriction of movement among Palestinians more specifically, has made the provision of services for the disabled even more challenging.
