"I’m not looking for religion.  I just believe in God who can help the whole world," says Loreto Alfonso, a member of the Mother of Divine Grace Church in Calaocan City, Manila who received this tiny book of the gospels from a Jesuit priest.  Since 1980, Alfonso has been slowly translating the bible into Tagalog by hand. When the spirit moves her, she can spend up to 24 hours recording verses in the 50-kilogram volume, sometimes in her home, and sometimes at Mount Banahaw during the Lenten Holy Week.
