Nelvin Blaza pays his respects to his grandfather, Arsenio de Los Santos, and seven other relatives who are buried in three, vertically-stacked coffins at the Makati Catholic Cemetery in Manila, Phiilippines on the eve of All Saints’ Day. Because of lack of cemetery space and rising burial costs, family’s are allowed to exhume the remains of their loved ones every five years and place them all in one coffin. During All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day weekend, Catholics across the globe celebrate the memory of the Christian saints and martyrs on All Saints’ Day which falls on Nov. 1, and pay respect to family members who have died on Nov 2. However, in the Philippines, millions of Catholics visit cemeteries to remember the dead on both days.
